UW-Platteville's Tera Burr ended her career with the highest career batting average in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history, but the Pioneers ended their season with a 5-3 loss at UW-Superior Thursday.

The Pioneers needed to sweep the Yellowjackets to grab eighth place in the WIAC tournament, which starts Friday in Superior. The Pioneers finish 5-29 overall and 0-15 in the WIAC, while the Yellowjackets are 13-15, 2-13. The second scheduled game was not played in the wet conditions.

Burr, the team's lone senior, ended her four years with a .446 batting average, topping the .444 set by UW-Stout's Suzanne Brion in 1994-96.

With a lead-off home run, Burr gave the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the first and marked her 24th career HR, a Pioneer record.

Jordan Johnson doubled in the third and scored on Kristin Nelson's single, giving UWP a 2-1 advantage. A Chantal McReynolds single in the fifth brought home Nelson, tying the contest at 3-3.

The Yellowjackets took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth on a run-scoring double by Melissa Kunzelman, whol then scored on Ashlee Olson's single.

Coach Heather Townsend's club put two on in the seventh, but McReynolds fly ball to right was caught, ending the game.
