Richter's 3 leads Pioneers to win

Bo Richter's three-point basket with 1:07 remaining broke a 47-47 tie and led UW-Platteville to a 53-47 victory at UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers held the Blugolds scoreless for the final 4:01 in the comeback win. Trailing 47-42, the Pioneers got a three-point basket from Mike Jamerson (3:44 left) and a two-point shot from Kyle Tetschlag (2:09) to knot the score at 47. Richter gave the Pioneers the lead for good with his lone field goal attempt of the game. Tetschlag made one free throw with 27 seconds left and two more with 11 seconds remaining to seal the win.

UW-Platteville improved to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Blugolds fell to 7-8, 1-6.

Charlie Lohoff paced a balanced Pioneer attack with 13 points, while Tetschlag had 11 points and four blocked shots, and Mark Gossens totaled 10 points and three blocks. The Pioneers committed just six turnovers in the 40-minute game.

The Blugolds' Dan Beyer led all scorers with 16 points, and Jared Bardon had 11, all in the first half.

The two teams will meet again Jan. 27 at a sold-out Williams Fieldhouse. The Bo Ryan Court will be dedicated at halftime of the 3 p.m. contest.

The Pioneers face top-ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Williams Fieldhouse. The 14-1 Pointers have beaten their first seven league foes by an average of 21 points.
